Not seeing planes land (Istanbul & Almería airports)

That dish would be nice to do some Ham EME with WSPR.. You should check out this site. https://planefinder.net/coverage Maybe you can start off with a SDR dongle from Ebay or Amazon. Or maybe get free gear (loan) from Planefinder. Cheers, Rich

Not seeing planes land (Istanbul & Almería airports)

It sounds like you have a lot more experience than most people getting into this hobby.. When I was getting my Novice ham ticket in 1968, the Ham radio club was using little 100mw CB AM walkie talkies while installing coax from inside a building, up a 100 foot tower. That night, I talked to a...

Not seeing planes land (Istanbul & Almería airports)

If you live in an area that needs more coverage by Plane Finder and meet all the requirements, you should be able to host a receiver system. A lot of people just track planes for fun with a cheap SDR and laptop, so they can go portable on road trips or hill-topping. It's a lot like the SWL...

Not seeing planes land (Istanbul & Almería airports)

The range depends on the height of your antenna and miles from the airport. I can't see planes on the runway at Logan Boston airport, but I'm about 10 miles from Boston. But only a few miles from the airport in Bedford, so I can see planes on the Bedford runway. Sometimes in the summer (like...

Not seeing planes land (Istanbul & Almería airports)

I once watched a plane do a landing approach then just keep going out to sea, where it finally disappeared. I had the same question. It's the AI. When a plane gets down really low, or too far away from an ADS-B receiver, that's feeding the software (that's feeding your display) the software...

Sharer Rankings - Use a different Ranking Approach?

My coverage area has been slowly getting smaller. Not sure why. Still see a lot of planes, since I'm close to the route from the EU into NYC, plus the Boston traffic. I used to see planes up in Canada and right down to NYC (during the winter, when the tree leaves aren't blocking).

DPD ADS-B Vertical Outdoor Base Antenna

I have not heard of RFI coming from USB cables. But, Google says: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/universal-serial-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.html Wow!! That's USB3 getting up to the WIFI band.?. If your 1090 Mhz receiver is picking up USB RFI into it's cables, that...

DPD ADS-B Vertical Outdoor Base Antenna

I've got too many planes in too close.. Maybe desensitization is setting in.. No, it's the weather north and east.. Still very wet..

DPD ADS-B Vertical Outdoor Base Antenna

I just looked at the weather radar and there's a lot of rain to the north. Water absorbs microwaves. Heavy snow does the same thing. This Tidbits forecast looks awful wet for the next couple of weeks.. With some breaks.. I hope.. Tidbits

DPD ADS-B Vertical Outdoor Base Antenna

Wow, that's amazing range! We need that coverage north of me, since the very tall trees to my north are killing the signals from Canada. It looks like you and I have a pretty good over-lap area. I had considered moving my DPD up to the top of my mast, but instead decided to take down most of the...

    UFO over NW USA?

http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16079/airliners-and-f-15s-involved-in-bizzare-encounter-with-mystery-aircraft-over-oregon seems interesting.. http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kmfr/ZSE-KMFR-14-15-Oct-25-2017-0030Z.mp3 Maybe a Canadian Spy Plane?

    Static IP and other questions

Your Max range can normally be improved by using a better antenna. But, if you are already using a good antenna, increasing it's height above any surrounding blockage might help some.. My antenna is blocked a little, and my Max range is about 180-200 miles. But, there is not 'standard range' of...
