The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is putting in place exclusive one-way green corridors in the air connecting Kolkata to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, allowing more flights on these high-density routes without compromising safety.
The corridors, known as 'city pair', will have a lane for outbound and another for incoming traffic separated by 30 nautical miles (56 km) wide median divider. A city pair has already been set up between Delhi and Mumbai and flights are using the twin corridors.
"The alignment of the three corridors has been done. Safety assessment of these routes is currently underway. Once that is completed, a notification will be issued in the Aeronautical Information Publication and the city pairs will become functional.Process should be completed by August and traffic should begin flowing by December".
