New Zealand Traffic

As a rank "newbie" to the site, but one with a big interest in Aviation, I have noticed very limited traffic showing for the New Zealand area. Scheduled flights into Tauranga where I live go near my home but are not shown onsite. The only reason I can think to explain this would be if the shown traffic was restricted to the larger Jet aircraft. Edit. I notice that other areas have planes such as Cessnas, Pilatus, Embraer etc. Most of the New Zealand territory is serviced by twin piston engined craft, 40/60 seaters, surely these should be showing....?

Hi Bazza,

Has any plane shown up on Plane Finder near your home in Tauranga? If there hasn't, it means that there isn't a ADS-B receiver installed there or the planes flying over at New Zealand don't have ADS-B equipment in operation. Read this article: http://planefinder.net/about/ads-b-how-planefinder-works/
If you are interested in holding a ADS-B receiver... http://forum.planefinder.net/threads/free-ads-b-receivers.10/
It is possible that piston planes don't need to have ADS-B...

Hope this information helps! ;)

Thanks for your reply.....I will need to do a bit of local research to clarify the position here., At any given time I can see about 10 planes using 4 major (International
Airports) so there must be a level of ADS-B. It is all the regional airports that I am referring to. I also belong to several local aviation forums and I am sure the
answers will be found through them.
