Plane Finder Client New Version! 3.4.25

I installed it last night and it was working, but appears to have stopped at some point a few hours later. There was nothing untoward showing in the logs and the error log was empty.

A few comments - The 3d polar view is very nice and should be quite useful for showing dead zones due to obstructions. I think it would be good if the blobs that indicate aircraft scaled with zoom. At the moment if you zoom in to see a particular area eg a local airport, everything is obscured by the blobs which become quite large, especially as the trails are thin. Performance on mobile (Nexus 5 here) is pretty sluggish - might be hoping for too much to expect it to work completely smoothly, but a frame every few seconds means it isn't really usable. Is smooth on desktop though.

We just released 3.4.25 which hopefully solves that crash. Might be worth updating to that.

Thanks for the feedback on the 3D. I'm not sure we can improve the framerate on the mobile devices. We use WebGL so it is backed off as much as possible to the hardware and we might be asking too much of the Nexus 5

Just upgraded to 3.4.25 on Raspberry Pi.
When viewing the 3d aircraft view, should I expect to see movement in the aircraft or is the view static from when it was opened?
Using IE 11 on Win 8.1 to view.

Thanks

Yes they should move, not too fast though as they don't in that scale!

I personally wouldn't use IE for this knowing the tech behind it. Chrome will work a treat.

Hi Lee
just downloaded windows installer 25 , but after the install the webbrowser, the client itself aswell as the stats on planefinder say it version 21.

Hi everyone, About 2 weeks ago, I updated to 3.4.25, but now see that I have 3.4.30 installed. Has a recent version introduced a capacity to self-update? I note that the changelog info listed at https://planefinder.net/sharing/client_changelog only covers up through 3.4.25, and auto-update isn't mentioned, I don't think. Can anyone explain? Many thanks, Andreas
Hello Andreas,

The client has been able to update for some time itself.

We found a critical bug with .25 so pushed an update to .30 out.

Thanks for this info! I updated to 3.3.222 on Feb. 7th, but no auto-updating took place before May 8th, when I manually updated to 3.4.25. Now I see that 3.4.30 has appeared on its own.

You are quite good at updating it seems! ;-) some people NEVER update which is why we built it in.

It has been there since we first released this new version of the client over a year ago.

3.4.30 fixes a crash in the client with the 3D view, we don't detail all of the versions but will make sure the latest is mentioned on the change log.

We have a new version coming out next week for some minor fixes with the wind speed & direction info.

Thanks for sharing Andreas!

Hi,

I'm on version 3.4.30 on the Pi. Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I'm not sure if the logs in /var/log/pfclient/ will rotate. I can't see anything in /etc/logrotate.d/, and the last 7 days seem to have accumulated, so I'm wondering if logrotate is configured, or if the client manages the logs internally.

Thanks!
Jayant

The client manages the logs itself. We didn't want to complicate it with a reliance on log rotate.

Hi there,

I recently happened to notice that the latest version was 3.7.40, and so I (manually) updated to it yesterday from version 3.7.20. I have two quick questions:

1. Shouldn't the update have occurred automatically?

2. Where can one find a detailed changelog for the released versions? The changelog located at https://planefinder.net/sharing/client_changelog has very little granularity, so not particularly useful.

Thanks for anyone's help!
Andreas
